Pilot

Pilot Mountain is a town in Surry County, North Carolina. It is named after the geological formation there. It is believed to be the inspiration for the fictional town of Mount Pilot on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD. In 1968, primarily through the efforts of local citizens, Pilot Mountain became North Carolina’s fourteenth state park.
